In March the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) held hearings about whether to require public companies to change (or “rotate”) their external auditor periodically. Similarly, the European Union has proposed mandatory auditor rotation every six or 12 years.

Gingrich’s Social Security plan: Privatize gains, socialize losses [Huffington Post]
Last week, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich unveiled details of his plan to partially privatize Social Security. His plan would allow younger workers to contribute a portion of their payroll tax obligation to a private investment account. Roughly speaking, Gingrich is signing on to the legislation from 2004 sponsored by Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) and former Senator John Sununu (R-NH).

The administration could give the big banks a choice — replace your guaranteed debt with newly issued non-guaranteed bonds, or pay the US Treasury $6 billion representing the remaining value of this federal guarantee over the next two years. This would not be a punishment; it would be the fair thing to do for US taxpayers.
